These connectors make installation of deck tension ties simpler, without having to hold the bracket in place while driving the main screw. 

Just drive the main 8" screw the appropriate distance into the ledger and wall plate, slip the bracket over the screw through the T-slot, fasten the 8 screws through the bracket into the joist, and tighten the large screw the last few inches!
