Posts for horizontal cable are conveniently pre-drilled for cables, with a thicker wall to handle the extra tension caused by tight cables.

Each post has the holes placed and sized differently, depending on where the post will be installed along the run.

• End posts will have larger holes for the fittings to fit into.
• In-line posts have smaller holes drilled for the 1/8" cables to run straight through.
• Corner posts have slightly larger holes on two adjacent sizes of the posts, so that the cable can be more easily threaded around the corner (with the included curved threading needle).
• Stair in-line posts have slots drilled in opposite sides si that cables can be run through at an angle, and have some adjustability depending on the angle of the stair.
• Bottom-of-stair posts are similar to end posts, but are taller and have the set of holes located higher to ensure the post can be placed correctly on the bottom step.

Lag screws are generally used to secure these surface-mount posts to the framing, and will need to be purchased separately from the posts.

When a continuous top rail is being run over a middle stair post, an over-the-post bracket will need to be installed on the top of the middle post to secure the top rails to the post effectively.
