Cable Railing

Cable railing refers to systems that use either vertical cables strung between top and bottom rails, or horizontal cables strung between posts, with a top rail above it and sometimes a bottom rail below the bottom cable.

Cable parts should not be mixed between brands, since each brand of posts and fittings are designed to fit together, and not across brands.

Vertical cable panels usually include cables with the railing panel, but horizontal cables are ordered separately from the horizontal rails and posts, which vary in length.

Vertical Cable Systems

Vertical cable systems either come already panelized, or come boxed with the cables strung and mid balusters loose. When using boxed kits, cables are cut out where spacers are needed, and are then pre-tightened, installed on the posts, and then a final tightening is done.

Horizontal Cable Railing Systems

Horizontal cable systems usually have a top rail that either goes over each post, or is attached between posts. If bottom rails are used, bottom rails are also secured between the posts.

Cable runs are usually configured to go between corner posts, or in sections where they will not run around more than two 90 degree corners. Each run will need one set of fittings, which will either be included with the posts, with the cables, or purchased separately.
